|12:09 pm - First, Try to Be Something, Anything, Else|
Lorrie Moore is my favorite author, and this is my reading of "How to Become a Writer," her breakthrough hit. Happy Sunday.
Wait, I thought phoneposts could only be five minutes. Hmm.
I guess I should learn how to make them.

I can't get the phone thing to work because we have no speakers at the moment (ack! I know), but I love this story with an unholy passion.
Are you completely up to date with her? I think I still have Frog Hospital to read, somewhere.
As long as she hasn't come out with anything since Birds of America, I've read it all but The Forgotten Helper.
Frog Hospital made me cry, and books don't do that.
If I tell you I find Lorrie Moore entirely overrated and her prose overwrought, will you still be my friend?
I mean, just hypothetically.
Now you owe me two burritos.
I SAID HYPOTHETICALLY, DAMMIT.
I KNEW WHAT YOU REALLY MEANT THOUGH. IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.
At least burritos are cheap around here ...
Hey, I totally forgot that you owed me burritos!
I guess we'll call it even with the latkes.
I think I owed you two burritos, because I hate Lorrie Moore. So unless you count the latkes for double burritos then I still owe you one ...
Well, I did have, like, twelve latkes.
You really did, didn't you. That's okay, I think Guzel had like twelve cupcakes. I'm glad you liked them!
I will never get over how fast you can move your mouth.
"Apply to law school.
From here on in, many things can happen. But the main one will be this: You decide not to go to law school after all, and, instead, you spend a good, big chunk of your adult life telling people how you decided not to go to law school after all."
Hey, spectralbovine, I just got a LJ last week. Is it OK if I friend you?
Heh. It's about time. Sure.
i just finished "self-help." it was amazing. "how to become a writer" was actually teh first thing by her i ever read. and i fell in love.
