10:54 pm - Wank Is Like Bacon: Crispy and Made of Flesh
So, like a month ago, some of us MI.net folks engaged in a bit of friendly argumentation with someone who had taken offense to something in one of our interviews. We only discussed it over AIM and on our private board.

Today, in the Meet Market, I posted the link as an example of someone a Chloe-hater might not want to cross.

A little over an hour later, it ended up on Fandom Wank.

Look! There I am! On Fandom Wank! Identified only as "The interviewer." Come on, you can identify hobviously, but you can't identify me? I even cursed for you. Love your icon, by the way.

Man, now I've hit the big time. This totally makes up for the rejection letter from the place in Connecticut that addressed me as Ms. and dissed my skill set.

Give the British definitions of the word "wank" the title of your post made me feel quite sick.

YAY for making it to Fandom_Wank though! *appluads*

I'm pretty sure our definition of wank is the same as yours, unless you Brits do something else particularly sick and twisted with it :-)

People on my flist are always showing up on F_W, but I've never been featured myself ::sulks:: I lose at the Internets.

No thanks. It just wouldn't be the same. Maybe I'll get lucky and Drew will kill off Vaughn or something and cause a huge kerfluffle I can be part of.

"Wank" is slang for both "masturbate" (ie "Wanking" = "masturbating") and also "wank" can be used to refer to the residual fluids resulting from "wanking".

Hence my "Ewwwwww!"

At first, I was very confused, all, "Whoa, how does this guy know my name?" Then I saw the second half of the username, and it made sense.

I miss y'all. I think I last posted on the Meet Market on page 100. Then I couldn't keep up and there were so many people! So sad. Love the story. Love the interviews. Love the site. Who should I contact regarding the East Valley shelter thing? I wrote to marsinvestigations but the person didn't give a name and I hate writing to a non-entity.

We got your e-mail. The address goes to wykbbb, the webmaster. I'm all for your delivering the check in person, but we don't seem to have officially decided yet. We have a little more time, so we haven't figured everything out. Wyk thinks we should let Kristen decide what to use the money for (since you said they let you specify), but how we go about doing that, I do not know. Get Rob to ask her? I think he sees her every now and then. We'll see.

Yeah, letting Kristen decide sounds good, but it would be interesting to see how to go about doing that. Yeah, you can specify. BTW, if you want to call the manager person, just call the East Valley shelter itself and ask for the person in charge of the place. I'll probably be going again this week to drop off some newspapers and I'll see if I can talk with him again. I like feeling like I'm part of something:) And I want to donate some money, but I don't have a PayPal account and it seems somewhat silly for me to send money when I'll be getting the check back to me (maybe). Whaddya think? Don't worry about me officially presenting it; that's not a huge deal to me. I just want to help in every way possible. This is a cause near and dear to my heart. When I drop off the newspapers, I visit the kitties and the doggies and they are all so cute. I wish I could take every last one of them home. Sigh.

I wish I could help with the website but I have no skillz whatsoever. How totally lame am I? As for my first impression of you? You were cool because you said on TMM that I was cool and you think of my Jennifer Garner pic when you think of me. That put you right up there:)

Oh, I know; it's not you I'm concerned about. I think they would appreciated being delivered a check by a real live person (especially one they're familiar with, like you!) rather than just getting some PayPal transaction or a check in the mail. Thanks for your help!

And I'll keep in mind that you want to donate when we try to work out the money flow. Maybe we could make the check out to you and then you can write one with your added contribution? We'll think of something.

Hmmm. As I read this, I had two thoughts, which I am posting only here because who knows what will happen if I put them anywhere else.

1. I saw repeated knocks on MI's professionalism. Last time I checked, it was a FANSITE. Politeness of course is valued on ANY site, but when I think "professional website," I think of big Flash jobs with a bio and that's about it. (Even Rob Thomas's official site uses Flash! I don't like Flash, by the way.) I much prefer less professional sites, which in my opinion almost always look better and feature higher-quality content.

2. This person seems to say it's okay for you to post comments there, but only if you post things she likes:

> Except that your journal is open to public comments. Thus I can post a comment if I choose to.

I'm confused, when did I ask you to stop commenting? I didn't. You're more than welcomed to post. But you're not welcomed to say that my opinion is invalid, or overreacing, or anything other than my own opinion.

I think that's weird.

Anyway. I am totally not sorry that I was never in the middle of a big public fandom mess. Most of my messes have been confined to email, because the people I got in messes with are pretty classy.

Late to the party, but I just wanted to say that I think it's hilarious that anyone thinks that FANS should act "professional". The fun of being a fan is being unabashedly silly, starstruck, squeeing, and making jokes. Fansites are supposed to be labors of love, not a profession. Not to mention, I doubt the tone of a fansite really changes "normal people's" perception of a fandom. We're all obsessed. I, for one, prefer to have fun with it. And I think MI.net rocks.

Hee. And I love how my part is only mentioned in passing: "Another MI.net mod chimes in and a discussion about heights, midgets, Willy Wonka and if Martin Short is short or a midget begins." It sounds so great. I love it.

Oh man, sorry about the rejection letter. I feel your pain. Although the added bonus of mistaken gender identity should at least make it funny. And obvious that they weren't paying attention to your application, so clearly are not any kind of authority on how valuable your skill set is.
