|11:20 pm - A Pomplamoose Once Bit My Sister|
The other night my friend Gina introduced me to Pomplamoose, and now I am addicted so I must share the love with you.
Pomplamoose—which means "grapefruit" in French—is Nataly Dawn and Jack Conte, who just happen to be up in Corte Madera in Marin. They're like She and Him meets the Submarines: a girl with a rich, jazzy voice dating a musically diverse guy with indie pop sensibilities. They have become YouTube sensations because of their VideoSongs, a new Medium with two rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
You may notice that they are both totally adorable. They're clearly very talented, but they have a lot of fun with their videos. Follow me behind the cut for more!
"If You Think You Need Some Lovin" is great, but "Beat the Horse" is even catchier and far more upbeat.
I love the clips of the dorky handclaps. And the random chicken dance. And the way Nataly bobs from side to side while doing the backup vocals in the chorus.
How can you not love a song that includes clips from His Girl Friday?
And here is one of their most popular covers. In which Nataly wears a Batman shirt, making her even more desirable. Also, the bridge is hilarious.
You can listen to many songs on their MySpace, and you can also buy them! And, you guys, I, music pirate extraordinaire, did indeed pay money for all the songs they had since they are independent, unsigned artists and intend to stay that way. I encourage you to do the same! The covers are all free downloads, though. But I highly recommend "If You Think You Need Some Lovin" and "Beat the Horse." And "Expiration Date." And "Centrifuge." And "Twice as Nice." And "Hail Mary."
Listen! Love! Buy!

Pamplemousse, pomplamoose, tomato, tomahtoe. :O) I shall listen to them in the morning, plus they get bonus points for their name choice and spelling. I love the way pamplemousse sounds which is the only reason I put it in my journal name.
I hope you like them! And, yeah, I don't think that's the French spelling. Heh.
Well, Nataly just finished college last year, I think. I'm sure they have day jobs.
Oh, that's pretty awesome!

its called rich parents.
Oh yeah! I saw their "Single Ladies" cover! It was terrific.
Oh wait, you linked to that one too.

Oh, they are adorable indeed, and her voice is lovely! Thanks!
Her voice is lovely, and I like how it requires no effort for her to sing like that. She's no nonchalant. It's amusing.
And they are so adorable! They both make such funny faces and do wacky things, just because that's who they are, I suppose. They seem like good kids.
Listened! Loved! Bought! :D
Thanks for sharing! I looooove her voice and their cover of "La Vie en Rose" and "Nature Boy". :) :)
Hurrah! I love her voice too. I haven't listened to "La Vie en Rose" since I'm not familiar with it, but I do like "Nature Boy."

I really like them, thanks! Cute.
Good call. Her voice sounds a little like Bjork - but, um, better? :-)
Hm, I don't hear it, but...maybe.
Cute band, cute music! I like-y. I have mad respect for anyone who covers The Sound of Music. And, like you, I'm powerless before any good screwball-comedy clips. LOVE HGF.
A Pomplamoose Once Bit My Sister...
Cute "Holy Grail" reference.
Pomplamoose Eye Choreography anyone?
Thanks for sharing. They are so obviously enjoying themselves that it's a pleasure to rewatch (after the whole thing downloads sporadically over my crappy Charter Cable connection.)
I love Nataly's little eye-darts to the camera, and her recurve bow of a smile is precious.
Ooh, they ARE adorable, and their music is awesome! I'll definitely check them out. Thanks!
