Los Angeles Invades My Privacy

If you live in the Los Angeles area and have not seen this post...see! I look to be mostly free on the New Year'sy days and January 2, but planning things is driving me insane. As you are about to find out, I will be going mostly offline pretty soon, so if you want to get in on the Polter-Cow action, call me or, if you don't have my number, text me yours via LJ.

Most importantly as of now...does anyone have suggestions on getting out of fucking Redlands on December 29? I may be able to swing something, but I'm flying blind right now. I also need to pay an obligatory visit to an aunt in Placentia, which is near nobody. Who likes driving? I can plug in my Shuffle; it'll be a good time.

Tomorrow, my uncle/aunt/cousins and I are packing into the Suburban and driving down to San Diego. I will be alternately sneakreading Midnight's Children and forcing them to watch Sports Night. On Sunday, my family will arrive (along with another set of aunt/uncle/cousins), and we'll do all sorts of things. If I'm lucky, I'll get to spend some time with mutinousmuse and get the Veronica Mars Location Tour. If I'm unlucky, I'll get to have a huge fight with my parents about how much I hate having an arranged marriage.

After Christmas, we'll head up to Redlands and do more stuff, and, historically, I don't get great cell reception up there, so please call earlier in the week if you can.

On Saturday, the family will start heading home, leaving me free to get into the city and spend five days seeing close to a dozen people, ranging from Buffistas and LJ friends to a friend from Rice I haven't seen in years.

On January 3, I will be off to Scottsdale to attend the double nuptials of Ravi, my favorite Token Indian Friend, and Laura, one of the people responsible for my love of Ender's Game. There will be both an Indian wedding like the many I've gone to before and a Catholic wedding like the many I've never gone to before. For my first Catholic wedding, I get to be a groomsman! And wear a tux for the first time.

And our entire circle of friends at Rice, the people who taught me what friendship was really like, will be there. I've seen most of them a few times since graduating, but this will be the first time we're all together after several years. (Amusingly bittersweet note: that's not necessarily a recipe for joyous shout and ringing cheer anymore. Modified rapture!)

All of this is to say that I will essentially be offline for two weeks, although I may make some PhonePosts. Don't cry; I'll be back. Happy holidays, everyone!
