|12:24 pm - Los Angeles Invades My Privacy|
If you live in the Los Angeles area and have not seen this post...see! I look to be mostly free on the New Year'sy days and January 2, but planning things is driving me insane. As you are about to find out, I will be going mostly offline pretty soon, so if you want to get in on the Polter-Cow action, call me or, if you don't have my number, text me yours via LJ.
Most importantly as of now...does anyone have suggestions on getting out of fucking Redlands on December 29? I may be able to swing something, but I'm flying blind right now. I also need to pay an obligatory visit to an aunt in Placentia, which is near nobody. Who likes driving? I can plug in my Shuffle; it'll be a good time.
Tomorrow, my uncle/aunt/cousins and I are packing into the Suburban and driving down to San Diego. I will be alternately sneakreading Midnight's Children and forcing them to watch Sports Night. On Sunday, my family will arrive (along with another set of aunt/uncle/cousins), and we'll do all sorts of things. If I'm lucky, I'll get to spend some time with mutinousmuse and get the Veronica Mars Location Tour. If I'm unlucky, I'll get to have a huge fight with my parents about how much I hate having an arranged marriage.
After Christmas, we'll head up to Redlands and do more stuff, and, historically, I don't get great cell reception up there, so please call earlier in the week if you can.
On Saturday, the family will start heading home, leaving me free to get into the city and spend five days seeing close to a dozen people, ranging from Buffistas and LJ friends to a friend from Rice I haven't seen in years.
On January 3, I will be off to Scottsdale to attend the double nuptials of Ravi, my favorite Token Indian Friend, and Laura, one of the people responsible for my love of Ender's Game. There will be both an Indian wedding like the many I've gone to before and a Catholic wedding like the many I've never gone to before. For my first Catholic wedding, I get to be a groomsman! And wear a tux for the first time.
And our entire circle of friends at Rice, the people who taught me what friendship was really like, will be there. I've seen most of them a few times since graduating, but this will be the first time we're all together after several years. (Amusingly bittersweet note: that's not necessarily a recipe for joyous shout and ringing cheer anymore. Modified rapture!)
All of this is to say that I will essentially be offline for two weeks, although I may make some PhonePosts. Don't cry; I'll be back. Happy holidays, everyone!
Current Mood: anxious
Current Music: The Crystal Method - Busy Child
Happy holidays to you too, Cow! *shows some cleavage in the form of her icon*

You need to get from Redlands to LA? I think the easier thing might be to just get a cab from Redlands to San Bernardino and then take the MetroLink into LA Union Station.
If I were in LA at that point, I'd drive you in myself, but Michigan it is.
I'm sure I'll be part of something that you're doing with spadada
, but that's all on her, I suppose.

Have a wonderful 2 weeks, and get some smooches at the wedding! Also, may any potential or forced fights go in the best and calmest way possible!
Thank you! You have a good time too!
I will be alternately sneakreading Midnight's Children
Good stuff! I was staring at that on my bookshelf when I woke up this morning and realized I should have recommended that to you instead.
Placentia might be the worst name for a town I've ever heard.
Ooh, and I'm excited to hear what you think of Midnight's Children. I need to read more Rushdie.
Also demand pictures of you in a tux. Thanks. Have fun!

Hee. So true.
You can post from my laptop. ;)
I can't believe neither of us have managed to find a New Year's Eve party. My city is letting me down!

Hee. THEORETICALLY. The problem is...have you seen
my posts? They take hours
to compose.I can't believe neither of us have managed to find a New Year's Eve party. My city is letting me down!
I know! It's L.A.
There has got to be something awesome (that, like, doesn't have a hundred-dollar cover or something). Maybe someone will pass us one of those fliers for some hip party featuring DJ Musicman and J-Cat spinning in between sets.
I'll be available New Year's Day! Let's do something with... people?
It's great you're making your nephews watch Sports Night (I just rewatched "The Six Southern Gentlemen of Tennessee." Good times). You, in turn, should watch The West Wing, or at least the first two seasons, which were the best.
I'll eventually get around to all seven seasons of that bastard. Someday.

You're going to make me gaze mournfully at the Sunil shaped hole on my IM list, aren't you?
There will be both an Indian wedding like the many I've gone to before and a Catholic wedding like the many I've never gone to before.
Hopefully this isn't a Catholic wedding with a full mass. Those are soooo looooong.

Where are you going from Scottsdale (which is only 2 hours from me)? And/or how much free time will you have surrounding the wedding, since I have to go up to Phx to go to IKEA at some point, I could maybe time it sneakily. ; )

Okay. I have sent you text messages, hopefully you've received them.
If not: I have a Rose Parade ticket for you. (We actually have two extra tickets, so if you have another friend or two who would like to come, just let me know.) We don't have extra parking passes, though, so it's probably best to meet at my house and figure out how to squish into cars. (or I need to call the church and get an extra parking pass.)
Call or email me for directions and other details.
Oh, awesome! Thank you! I haven't gotten a text from you besides the one with your phone number, so I was wondering what was up.
I will definitely need at least one more ticket, since I'm staying with rachelmanija
the night before and she would have to be up for getting up early and taking me. I'll see if another friend of mine is interested, as I have to be passed off to her anyway. About what time would we need to get to you? Go ahead and e-mail me necessary addresses/directions and I'll call my people.
