It's over, you guys. Dawn Ostroff said it herself. Not only is it over, period, but she doesn't even seem that confident in the FBI thing happening (which she doesn't even mention by name, just some "project with Rob and Kristen" that may or may not be Veronica-related).

I know the show got two more chances than it deserved, given its ratings, and that's two more than a lot of shows get, but seeing the C-word popping up all through the media today, now with added validity from Dawn's statements at the upfronts, hurt more than I expected.

Here is a conversation I just had with a co-worker:

"I heard they cancelled your show."

"Yeah. It's very sad."

"Well, you look distraught."

"Yeah. That's why."

I was looking for a conference room to go in and be emotional, but they were all occupied. I finally went outside so I could call Rob. I wasn't surprised when it went straight to voicemail. I rambled about being sorry for everyone and passing on thanks from the fans and best wishes to everyone involved to get more work.

"It wasn't real until today," I said, which finally allowed the tears to come out. I hung up before I became a bawling mess in front of Rob Thomas's voicemail. I had a short little cry against a column. I couldn't believe I was crying over a TV show.

But it was more than a TV show, of course. It was an experience. The last three years have changed my life forever, there is no question about that, if only for all the wonderful friends I've made through the love we all shared at one point. It hasn't been all sunshine and roses, and being a fan has caused me a lot of pain and anguish as well, but it was worth it. It was definitely worth it.

Thank you, Rob Thomas and company, for giving us three seasons of television worth watching and obsessing over.

Thank you, Dawn Ostroff, for giving it every chance you could.

And, finally, thank you for making this all one hell of a ride.

That was beautiful. The show will always be special to me, because I gained so many friendships from it. I will miss it, and I am glad it happened this year, instead of last year, or the year before.

Aw, man. I have to dry my eyes quick. My roommate would so not understand tears over a tv show.

Even though I'm not, like, sorry for me (you know what I mean), I'm really sorry for all of you. Really. And, hey, if nothing else, at least I am not a) still afraid of you and b) laboring under the misconception that you are a girl.

Hugs?

I don't know if there's anything effective I can say, but this has been an experience, if nothing else.

I hope the rest of the day goes well.

:(

It was fun while it lasted. I was so sure that it would never make it past the first season. MSCL never even got to finish out its first season, so 3 seasons of VM seem like a gift.

You are so right, it isn't just the show it was everything that went along with it, and meeting all of my friends that I have met because of it will stay with me forever. {{{Hugs}}} and *snuggles*

I'm sending a hug. I'll post my thoughts later when I collect them. I don't really know what to say about the whole thing right now. I'm not angry or pitchforky, but I'm more sad than I thought I would be, given that we all kind of knew this was inevitable.

anyway, hugs.

Yeah, seriously. I thought I'd resigned myself to it, but like I said: it wasn't real until today.

Sorry, Sunil. I haven't watched the show in quite a while, but I know how much it still meant to you, and I'm glad we all got to meet up and have some great times because of it.

I stopped caring about the show months ago. But I don't think I'll ever stop caring about the fans. About you. About the entire experience of Twop and finding people that loved a show as much as I do.
I'm not as worried as I thought I'd be about losing touch. It stopped being a simple fandom long ago. It became just a gathering of friends who talked to eachother everyday. I don't think that's going to stop just because our show got cancelled.

So, this time next year in the Heroes thread?

Heroes is never getting cancelled. In fact, in a few years, NBC will just be called The Heroes Channel.

I normally just lurk here, because I enjoy reading your thoughts on VM and other TV shows (your recent post on FNL was awesome, one that I might link to others to convince them to watch, since I can never quite explain why it is so great in the eloquent way you did), but I thought now was as good a time as any to delurk and say thanks for all the wonderful recaps and insightful posts about VM. I've enjoyed watching the show through your eyes.

And, I'm so sorry for your (everyone's) loss? Is that what should be said now? Because it somehow feels right.

Sunil, my heart goes out to you. To me, you are one of the emblems of Veronica Mars. Your sheer delight and enthusiasm over the show, has made reading, analyzing and posting about it so much fun. I've not been happy with this season but I do treasure all the things I adored in the past.

Huggles.

Thank you for all your support for the show. You were one of the first people to welcome this (relative) "newbie" to the club, so to speak. I've valued your virtual friendship and insight. I hope it will last beyond the sadness of this day.

Word. On everything you wrote.

When I first got involved in the Buffy fandom, I thought it was a neat experience. Discussing episodes, deconstructing scenes in TWoP. And then Buffy was cancelled and I just moved over to the Angel section and kept doing it. And then Angel was cancelled and I had to find a new home.

Until Veronica Mars arrived. I thought I was just doing the same thing, the same fandom discussions, but then it became something more. We weren't just talking anymore, we were doing. I've never been involved in a Save Our Show campaign until VM. I've never worked on a website until VM. I've never become so obsessed, so intrigued, loved a show so much that I came to the damn set and walked around with the actors and directors and all the crew and loved every goddamn minute of it.

If you told me three years ago that there would be a show that would instill such rabid devotion that members would hire a plane, I wouldn't believe you. If you told me that I would be one of those obsessive fans that dread even the thought of cancellation, I wouldn't have believed you.

Yet, here I am.

Thank you, P-C. Thank you, Rob Thomas. Thank you, UPN and the CW and Dawn Ostroff and Kristen Bell and Jason Dohring and Percy Daggs III and Enrico Colantoni and Francis Capra and Tina Majorino and Ryan Hansen and Teddy Dunn and Kyle Gallner and Amanda Seyfried and Daran Norris and Ken Marino and Christopher B. Duncan and Joel Silver and Diane Ruggiero and Phil Klemmer and John Enbom and Dan Etheridge and Stacey Fields and Danielle Stkdyk and Hans VanDoorneward (which I see in every episode and still think is the best. name. ever) and D. Howard Grisby and Josh Kramon and Victor Hammer and Joaquin Sedillo and Daniel Gabbe and Alfred Sole and Dan Mulvaney and Iris Huezo and Rick Pickett and Viet Nguyen and Mike Weiss and everybody I forgot to mention. Thank you all.

Oh, Sunil. It was a crazy ride, wasn't it?

Here's to Veronica Mars, and the fun that it was while it lasted, and the 2 1/2+ seasons of show we got that we never thought we would.

The problem with working a cubicle - especially since they're moving, like, 6 people's desks today so everyone's pacing back and forth - is that it's awkward to explain why one is getting rather teary-eyed. If only I had an office with a door.

My father sent me a link to the yahoo news story but I refused to believe it until I heard it from you, Sunil!

...I guess that should be "working in a cubicle," because my cubicle is not a stripper pole.

Also. Bright side? I guess I can watch The Unit guilt-free now.

Delurking to say that I was doing okay and then I decided to see what you had to say and ended up crying (we don't actually know each other but we've had a "comment conversation" or two in Anna's journal). Anyway, just thought it might make you feel better to hear from another fan who found you to be an amazing representative of the fandom. With all the negativity surrounding this season, it was great for me, as someone who just continued to love the show with all her heart, to know I could come here for something positive, loving, and fun after each episode.
