I Hearst Huckabees
So I haven't commented on The VM Drama of the moment. Other people have already said what I would say anyway, and I have far too many other things to deal with at the moment. I don't want to get involved. The whole thing just brings me down at a bad time.

So, bring me up. I want you to tell me why you still like/love Veronica Mars. Not why you used to like Veronica Mars. Everyone used to like Veronica Mars. I used to like VM. I still like VM, but I used to, too. I want you to tell me why you still like the show, are looking forward to the final five episodes of the season, and hope for a fourth season, regardless of the format. You know I'm a safe haven for positivity, so show it, please. Send over your friends if you want.

Why are we still watching? Why do we want more? Say it loud and say it proud.

Why do I still like the show?

Because Kristin Bell is adorable, sharp as a tack, and remarkably talented.

Because Enrico Colantoni is my secret, bald, almost middle-aged boyfriend.

Because Rob Thomas named the Marses' dog Backup.

Because even when I disagree with the direction some episodes have taken, or some storylines, the writers are still aiming for something intelligent, funny, and very often emotionally compelling.

Because I love Veronica. It took me a little while to warm up to her and I resisted with all my might but she won me over and I'm sticking by her to the end. Even if she's a bitch to everyone she doesn't like, sleeps around with all the boys, and fucks her boyfriend's dad, I want to tune in and find out what she's been up to every week. And, if it means I get to keep doing that, I'll follow her to the FBI.

Best.Post.Ever

Okay, why I still like Veronica Mars? In essay format or...?

We'll go with the bullet points.

Veronica Mars still makes me think. I had a conversation with my friend yesterday and we were talking about the show and she missed some things from the last two episodes and she said "you just have to be so smart to watch that show." and I just laughed, it's not that you have to be smart, but to really get the full benefit you do have to pay attention or you miss things otherwise, they don't connect all the dots for you. I like that.

Veronica Mars is still a a kick-ass tiny little blonde. She's smart, she's cute, and she takes no prisoners. She's my kind of girl

Logan Echolls looks good no matter what he's doing and I'd watch him read the telephone book. Seriously.

Because the cast and crew are awesome, and I've got no doubt that they work hard to make this the most entertaining thing on television and they usually succeed.

Um.. Caged Heat. need I say more?

I completely agree. And on that note, this fellow VM/KB fan wanted to thank you for all of your positive and pro-Veronica comments on TWoP. I mostly lurk there, but with everything that's been going on in fandom the past week, I really wanted to let you (and [info]rowanceleste, below) know that there are people like me out there who've really appreciated your comments. :)

Even though most of the episodes this season have underused Veronica's friends, when they do appear on-screen with her, the relationships just fall into place. Watching episodes like Hi, Infidelity and Show Me the Monkey make me smile because, while Kristen Bell is awesome and hot and kicks a whole lot of ass, it's really the chemistry she shares with all of her friends, particularly Mac and Wallace, that always make me smile. Daddy/daughter time is also always welcome, and I've enjoyed this past mystery arc, which let them put their heads together to try and solve it.

I'm curious to see how the standalone episodes are gonna play out, and particularly since they've apparently back-loaded most of Wallace and Mac's episodes. C'mon, show more of Veronica with her BFFs!

VM has the best music! And best ensemble cast. Muhney used to be in that group, but Piz is doing nicely. All of the main guys work so well with each other- Francis with Kristen, Michael, Jason, or Enrico is just electric to watch. And true with everyone else in every other pairing. This show really makes me wish the Emmys had an ensemble cast award. VM's cast is just electric and solid with each other.

I'm gonna forward you something I wrote instead. I don't want to post it which is why it's not in my own LJ.

But suffice it to say, I still love the show. I love that it at least attempts to tackle difficult subjects even if it sometimes falls a little short in execution. I love that there is a show where a girl doesn't just start dressing like a porcelin doll every episode where she can be as sassy as the boys and still respected. I love that the people who create the characters (both as writers and as actors) love the characters as much as the fans do.

I still like it because I'm contrary? No? Ok then.

I still love VM because it's still witty. It makes me laugh. Often. And I still say "rode hard and put away wet" a lot.

I love that it is often realistic in it's depictions of school life. I don't mind the absence of Mac and Wallace because most of my conversations with my best friends wouldn't warrant more than 30 secs of screen time either, esp if I was busy in school.

I love the way relationships are written... she has good friends, a loving father, and an obnoxious boy that she can't get out of her head. It may be cliche, but I'm living that cliche too.

I love that there is something interesting every week. Their MotW are pretty darned creative and that continues to impress me.

I love that Jason Dohring, Ryan Hansen, and Chris Lowell are so damned good looking.

I'm excited for the final five episodes because I've been excited for every episode ever. I'm an eternal optimist like that.

I loooooove Veronica. I know she's flawed, but she's realistic flawed, and unless you're an idiot, you can TELL she's flawed and you know the writers know it too. (It's not like Grey's, where they used to pretend Derek was The Perfect Man even when he was being a huge jackass.) VMars is possibly the only show where I actually like the main character - I'm usually all about side characters and meh about the mains. But with VMars, I love almost everyone!
And yes, the show has had some screw-ups, but it's also had some shining moments of awesometude. Plus, Kristen Bell is super-cute, and I want to see her keep solving college mysteries and snarking and angsting a little.

(But as for "any format" - I'm not sure I'd be okay with "4 years in the future and V is an FBI agent.")

p.s. I bet bringing back Deputy Leo would save everything. <3

One: Best father-daughter relationship on television. That's right the best, suck on it Giles/Buffy and HRG/Clairbear (although I love you both)

Two: It's actually realistic for such a none realistic show. Yes, Veronica is a bitch. You would be too if you had seen all the fucked up shit she has. And yes she caught Lilly's killer and she wasn't exactly raped. That shit doesn't just go away. It's a real character trait. She's a bitch cause it keeps her safe. I like that fact.

Three: Okay, not to be like, totally shallow? But she pretty much dresses just like me, when I'm wearing that type of outfit. Yeah, they don't call me self-obsessed for no reason.

Four: And this is the very very most important. This show has brought together the number one most amazing, beautiful, intelligent, funny group of people I've ever had the pleasure to know. I have to believe in a show that has that kind of power. No one ever said faith was easy.

Because I love witty dialogue.

Because I love to laugh.

Because I love the characters and the actors who play them.

Because even during a less good episode, I still can't tear my eyes from the screen.

Because the show moves briskly.

Because it's the show that taught me the internet isn't always scary and that it is possible to meet cool people on it.

So if I get more of her next season, that will be even more awesomely special. And no matter what, it still one of the best written shows on television.

I like the show for a few different reasons, some of which I will say here.

1. It's well written. I am a sucker for a good story, especially if it's full of sharp, laugh out loud dialogue. For witness of this, see any scene between Veronica and Keith this season - for every one scene that makes me roll my eyes (and yes, there have been a few), there are at least a dozen that never fail to put a smile on my face.

2. The cast are brill. Every single one of 'em makes you believe they are who they portray - from Veronica's occasionally bitchy tenaciousness, to Keith's fatherly concern, all the way down to Fern's obnoxious man-hating bullshit, and every "80's star coming back" - all the casting is perfect.

3. Soundtrack!! Need I say more? Well, OK - all the music is tops, be it Josh Kramon's soundtrack, or the hip new tune that is getting its first spin in the background of the scene where Veronica and Logan break up again, it all fits.

I'm looking forward to the final eps of the season mainly out of curiosity of how the teams (front of and behind camera) will handle a handful of self-contained eps. We know that they can do semi-self-contained, but with something that ties it to the big arc, so I want to see how they do with things having to stand on their own.

Of course I hope for a fourth season, and ideally I'd like it to continue as is (what can I say, I want more Parker). That being said, I am a little worried that, if the format change does come to pass, the show will change for the worse. Which is to be expected when such a big change happens - we are all full of doubt and "what ifs". Plus, I've read that most of the cast won't be coming back should the FBI Years be our only option, and dammit, I want my weekly fix of Enrico.

In conclusion, Libya is a land of many contrasts. Goodnight.

The short version of why Veronica Mars is still my favorite show on television?

No matter how many times I see an episode, even a sub par episode, it's still damn enjoyable.

Veronica and Keith's banter owns my heart.

Logan and Veronica's banter owns my soul.

BFFDOM and SNICKERDOODLES!

I, at least, like, if not love, most every person on this show. The smart. The stupid. The layered. The not-so-layered. The rapey. The dead. The corrupt. The not as corrupt. Everyone is awesome in their own way, due to the crazy sweet casting.

Even though this show has failed,it continues to try new things all the time. S1 dared to solve the fucking mystery. S2 dared to give Neptune more focus, go with a bus crash mystery, and, in turn, let everyone's favorite emo, be-eyelinered mini-09er do some bad, bad things. S3 has Veronica in college and mini mysteries. This show suprises me and keeps me entertained in new ways and I love it for it.

The music choices are awesome.

As for what I want:

More Mac stuff
Wallace (!!)
Veronica to finally get a pony.

I'm looking forward to VM's return because I'm curious to see what stand-alone eps will feel like. It's new!

Also, there will be more Mac! I love Tina and IIRC she they have some Mac appearances saved up for the end. Mac attack!

And I'm assuming that Wallace will show up in an ep and have more than one line. Yay Wallace!

Another Cliff appearance is possibly too much to ask for...but it's possible, at least until I spoil myself (which I'm not gonna do).

And hopefully Veronica will be funny/snarky. She might even take photos! And solve a crime or four.

I still look forward to every single episode. I just *enjoy* this show. It's so much fun, if you let it be! It's funny and smart, and the awesomeness of the dialogue doesn't change. It's still a pretty show - so much pretty!

I genuinely like Veronica, Logan, and Logan/Veronica. I love Veronica and Keith. Their dynamic is so fabulous. Mac = awesome. I love the people of this show, the characters and the acting. I love the relationships. I love the wacky hand gestures!

The show still holds a lot of promise for me, which is why I want to see more. I want to see RT and others learning from mistakes, growing and changing, and exploring. I want to see where it's all going. I want to get a chance to watch Veronica's character change and grow, because she does need to do some growing and changing.

The way KB breathes. She can convery more emotion with a catch of her breath than most actors with their whole repetoire. That catch of her breath when Logan touchers her face in the epic speech, or her attempt to start breathing normally again in LuckyTim's office after Logan asks for permission to date Parker.

And maybe this is cheating, but for me there is no "used to love VM." This show has delivered so many moments of pure magic. For me, single moments are the only real thing, and the collection of perfect moments will always make this show great.

So let me choose just one that's only a litle "shippery." In the TWoC flashback, while waiting for Lilly, Veronica is filming Logan, who is putting on a little show for her. So present in the scene. So true to character. Throughout that scene and throught those flashbacks and throughout the show, these actors, writers, & directors have created these fully three dimensional people with the smallest of details delievered so perfectly.

I love Veronica Mars because the next perfect moment can still come at any moment. RT's biggest gift as a storyteller is the ability to bring a totally unexpected perfect moment suddenly, out of nowhere, and still have it seem so organic. Even if they have become cliches, scenes like The Kiss or Sway were perfect because they were so unexpected upfront and so inherently obvious in retrospect.

And in between the perfect moments, I get to hang out with people I love.

I am still watching because I enjoy the dialogue, the humor, the wit, the story twists and the characters. I think KBell is a phenomonal actress and that Veronica is amazing. Best cast ever. Seriously, with two notable stunt casting exceptions, I love all the actors associated with VM.

The Veronica/Keith relationship. Even when they don't trust each other or are disappointed in each other, it's still one of the best relationships on television, IMO.

THE MUSIC, OMG. I have never loved the soundtrack to a show so much, or the theme song. Or the new incarnation of the credits.

Veronica Mars, girl detective. I don't care if she's overly snippy, she's a kickass female protagonist and I love her for it. Also, Wallace and Mac as the support group.

Why? Why wouldn't I like one of the most under-appreciated shows on tv these days?

Lots of people I've bumped into, don't even know what its about..so I try to explain what its about, most of the time..with no success.

The show has characters that are somewhat similar to a series of books I once used to read. You have your female detective, who was thrust into her role by chance and circumstance, not by her choosing..

She befriends someone she doesn't know, makes an enemy of a shady character who turns out to be more than he appears,at first glance...

She has a strong bond with her friends,family..

Thats pretty much it

I was directed here by [info]apriljoiex.

I love all the characters on this show. I love Veronica because she's the first character I fell in love with and she's what made me keep watching this show. She's my favorite character and I can't wait to see what she does every week. I love her confidence and resiliency (resiliance??? whatever the word is that means "I'm not going to let this sh*t keep me down.") and I wish I had some of those same traits. This is the only show I've ever watched where I've liked pretty much every character.

I adore the friendship between Veronica and Wallace. That's my favorite relationship on this show. I haven't liked the way Wallace has been used this season, but I still enjoy even his small scenes. I don't cry over TV too much, but that "It was worth getting taped to the flagpole" scene at the end of season 2 does it for me every time. *sniffle*

I think all the actors on this show are great. You can tell that every one of them pour their heart and soul into their characters. All of them, especially the lovely Ms. Bell, are just awesome. If VM does end, I will continue to watch these actors in whatever roles they may take.

The witty writing and engaging storylines keep me interested and entertained every week. VM's the only show I feel the need to record and immediately rewatch later that evening. I will watch any show that Rob Thomas is showrunning because I think he's done a great job with VM.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this season because I want to see if Veronica and Piz will hook up (which I hope they do) and if Veronica and Logan will get back together (which I wouldn't mind happening.) I want to see how Keith and V are going to deal with him being the sheriff. I want to see Veronica continue to kick ass and take names. I want to see Wallace hopefully get more than 10 seconds of screen time. And as usual, I hope that Troy Vandegraff will pop up again at least once.

I want to see Veronica on my screen every week, whether she's in college or in the FBI. I could go on, but I'll stop now before this gets even longer. :)

Not a lot new I can add here, except I'm not ready to give up on this show yet. At its best, it's still funny, the lead character refuses to turn into what the CW wants her to be - an "Aerie Girl" - but true to herself, and one of the most complicated characters, male or female, grownup or teen, I've ever seen. And the relationship she has with Keith is still good. And it's noir without being self-conscious about it.

I love Veronica Mars for a plethora of reasons. Sometimes I feel like I'm one of the few that actually love Veronica herself - flawed, witty, intelligent, loyal, sometimes bitchy but still always my favorite heroine. I love L/V and I don't care if that makes me a 12 yr old fan girl, but I love the chemistry and emotion that KB and JD can bring to a scene. I love the actors in the show, the writers, directors and cast, even when I may not love every scene or storyline in every episode. I think the cast is phenomenally talented and I don't just mean KB and JD, but I mean also mean, Francis, Ryan , Michael, Tina and Percy. Take Francis,Ryan and Michael for instance...their roles could have been completely one dimensional, yet they managed to give enough depth to those characters that most people either love them, hate them or at least care about seeing them on screen...that goes for Cliff, Vinnie, Mr Van Clemmons and some of these tertiary characters that really shouldn't make that much of an impact, but still manage to do so never the less...as for the last five episodes, I'm looking forward to seeing the hard work on screen from KB, JD, PD, TM, EC,FC, etc and whether or not I actually enjoy the story lines that happen, I'm pretty damn sure the acting will be great, at the very least. As for a four season, I still have enjoyed Season 3, despite L/V's drama!angst!drama! and I do believe the writers have learned from some of the missteps in S1, S2 and S3 and while use that knowledge to create a great Season 4...I do just hope it's not Veronica alone as her relationships with others are a big part of what make the show Veronica Mars to me...either way though, if that worst case happens and it's just KB, I plan to still give it a chance because who knows? I may love it more than I thought I would...I won't go into the spoilers since I know so many people on your LJ (including you, are unspoiled), but I do want to add that I still have faith that the writers had an arc they were developing in S3 and we will see the culmination of that arc in the last 5 episodes, not to mention the 3 season they've spent telling us L/V is this 'epic' couple is not in vain...bottom line..I have hope for the last 5 episodes and for S4 and I don't plan to lose that hope and my faith in the writers to make things right in the end and into the next season...

Why do I love Veronica Mars? Because I love Veronica. And Keith. And Wallace. And Mac. And Logan. And Weevil. And I'm starting to love Parker and Piz. And I loved Lily. And I loved Beaver, before he turned evil. And I hate Dick, but I love to watch him on my TV. And I hated Lamb, too, but now I miss him. I love Cliff! And Backup. And I even love (to hate) Vinnie Van Lowe.

So why do I love Veronica Mars? The characters. The flawed, multi-dimensional, lovable, hateable, empathizable, cringeable characters.

And also because that's how I met you!

Since I can't think of anything original to say, I'm just going to give a big WORD to nsf. *waves to nsf*
