11:54 am - I'm Coming Out!
As a Supernatural fan.

I considered it a guilty pleasure, and I felt sort of ashamed for liking it so much, in the way that you wouldn't actually tell anyone in real life that you watched it.

But the second season has been much better than the first season in terms of most everything, and it's continuing to draw on its own mythology and worldbuilding and continuity to propel the story forward. I look forward to it every week, not least because of the incredibly awesome promos that are among the best I've ever seen. And I started a sort of tradition of eating ice cream while I watched it, which I used to do with BSG on Fridays and I still do with Heroes on Mondays.

And then last night's episode, which managed to be funnier than The Office, which was funny as hell as per usual, just pushed me over the top. Because I could tell that everyone involved in making the show loves the show and they have fun and I respect that, the obvious thought and sentiment that goes into the work. And a show like that? Deserves to have my unabashed, undiluted love. I don't promise flail and squee or anything, but a healthy appreciation unburdened by bias and preconceptions and bolstered by higher expectations.

So, Supernatural, you have won me over. I would not even be averse to purchasing your DVDs at some point, as the extras and packaging look worthwhile.

I love Supernatural. This is going to take some getting used to.

YAY! for unabashed, undiluted love!!!!

And don't worry, I (and about 1,723,486 others) will be more than glad to continue bearing the brunt of the flail/squee fandom quota.

(Seriously, this makes me SO happy. You know how you feel when someone caves in to complete Avatar love? It's kind of like that. When you love something this much, and it gives you this kind of joy and entertainment, you want everyone to be able to experience the same thing.)

I know! I figured this was coming when I started wanting actual SPN icons instead of my two silly Alona Tal icons.

I thought it would make certain people happy, which is why I decided to just post it. Because that episode was just...DAMN. I couldn't not love it after that. It's the new X-Files and they know it.

Hee. I watched during the first season. But, it was kind of a guilty pleasure. I liked the mythology and the boys were cute, but they said the cheesiest stuff to one another. And they would stop, while being chased by an angry ghost, to talk about their feelings every five minutes. I felt like I laughed more at lines that were supposed to be sincere than I did at the ones that were actually supposed to be funny.

That being said, it was fun to watch. And everyone has being going ape shit over the second season, so I will eventually need to catch up.

Yeah, the first season is like, "We're going to be a show about monsters being hunted by characters."

The second season is, "We're going to be a show about characters who hunt monsters."

I was ragging on the constant talking about feelings when I started watching the second season, too. But I got used to it as part of the show, and I sort of liked it eventually just because, well, that's what this show does. I like brotherly relationships.

I LOVE Supernatural!! I discovered it after S1 had already finished, but I got the DVD's for Christmas and I've gotten a lot of use out of them. The show is so great to watch because while it has some common themes between episodes, each episode covers something new. It's continually changing and getting more addicting!

I have always been out about it, but I confess to blaming my love on the HOTNESS and on my enjoyment of bad teenagy-shows. Maybe I'll have to stop claiming it's so bad it's good to my rl friends, and ease up on the "but they're HOT!"

Last night was FUN.

Hee. Maybe! I mean, I don't even care about the hotness except for the hotness of Whoever Dean's Hitting on This Week.

Last night was FUN-ENOMENAL.

OMG I JUST MADE UP THE BEST WORD.

Arg. Would Itunes upload the latest episode already! So I can get to the watching!

The last three episodes I've seen have been pretty good (even the mostlyboring Catholic priest one was at least decent). I think Night Shifter and Born Under a Bad Sign were the best episodes I've seen of this show (I still have the last two of season one to watch and two random ones from season two). So, if this one was really good too, then the show is definitely hitting a stride.

I'm still trying to get over the 10 minute night, the invisible demons beaten by a FLARE, racist trucks, and the blatant LIE of "no chick flick moments." Maybe once I get back to the current episodes in my marathoning I'll be more on board with absolute Supernatural love. Or maybe these next two episodes (1.21 and 1.22) will have me sold.

Whoa, dude, that's what you have left? Yeah, those two episodes kick ass. They'll help sell you. All sorts of family drama and angst and demons and vampires and showdowns and pain. The show is definitely hitting a stride right now; you're right. A lot of very good episodes in a row. And the next episode has Tricia Helfer! Who you would hardly recognize as Tricia Helfer unless they told you because she is just that good.

The ten-minute night is regrettable, indeed. And what were the invisible...oh yeah! Because they exist in the shadows, so you have blinding light that erases all shadows, and they go away! It makes perfect sense, Sarah! RUN WITH IT.

The weird thing about finally loving a show is that you retroactively like everything else more. Like, I'm suddenly defensive of shit. And the show entire.

AWESOME! Supernatural and Veronica Mars are my two main fandoms, and I absolutely love SPN. I think it's a wonderful show and everyone involved works so hard on it.

Glad you like it!

you know my story. didn't start loving it until the second season. though Dean is the superior character. i started watching the show for JP, but have grown more in love with JA. funny how that works.

if you watched the ep last night and you didn't laugh, i don't think you're human. period.

I started watching the show for Alona Tal, but then she was barely in it.

Okay, so half of me wants to point and laugh with HA! YOU'VE BEEN SUCKED IN! Because it amuses me muchly. But the other half of me is jumping up and down because you gave it ICE CREAM status. That just makes me all spazzily happy!

I love Supernatural. This is going to take some getting used to.

The only way I got used to it was to realize I'd never ACTUALLY get use to it. It's just one of those things...

And now just have to get caught up with Avatar! Sendspace is evil and totally the cause of this SNAIL-SPEED run. Damn thing takes FOREVER.

The previouslies alone made my night.

I only started watching a couple of weeks ago when a friend lent me all her copies, and I totally fell in love. I was wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is, and while it's not great art it's definitely great television.

I am TiVoing SPN for Robin and sort of watching it when I am bored, and it's v. cute. Also, I just switched digital tiers and now have SciFi, so I watched a couple of episodes of Avatar. Actually, I watched an episode form the beginning, and was totally sucked in, and then caught another ep halfway through and couldn't get into it, and this says to me. . .that I would probably really love the series if I marathoned it, because I'm more interested in the chacter and story development than the fun cartoony action. So now, *sigh* I will have to start it fro the beginning. After I watch Jake 2.0, the marathon of which I am TiVoing also. One series at a time.

I...you do mean Nick, right? Because Avatar is not on SciFi.

Avatar has both character and story development AND fun cartoony action! It helps when you love both. Start from the beginning!

I love Supernatural. This is going to take some getting used to.

Hee, awesome!

And I started a sort of tradition of eating ice cream while I watched it, which I used to do with BSG on Fridays and I still do with Heroes on Mondays.

More hee and awesome. This seems like a good tradition. I don't eat anything for I put my non-watching attention on taking notes during the episode. This show has made me start taking notes! I don't know why.

I totally agree that it has improved on all front this season, and it's so awesome to see a show do that. Oh yeah, last night was so funny and, for me, really cemented how very funny it has become, given how there was sort of a contrast with "Hell House".

I mean, season one had it's fun moments (including "HH"), but then again I don't think it had really come into it's own yet with the comedy and some things just didn't feel as authentic as they could have (the pranks wars were quite fun, but still itching powder and super glue are not that orginal).

However, I was rolling last night at the strange and quirky orginal quality of what was going on. And then you think about 'mandroids' and Andy's van and yeah. SO MUCH FUNNY THIS YEAR.

Plus, another thing from last night, Chip Diller got PROBED and SLOW DANCED. Ahahahaha.

(You are a Sam!person! What sealed the deal on that? Hee. And thoughts on tiedup!Alona last week? *snerk*)

OMG, the same thing happened to me last night! I think it started with Nightshifter. I was really, terribly impressed with that episode, I thought maybe I haven't given this show enough credit. And then I liked the next two episodes a lot, and then the awesome promo for this week, and THEN this week's episode was really just light and funny and wonderfully played, with such a great, dark little twist at the end. And I thought, damn, I really like this show.

And I think it IS getting so much better. It's really hitting its stride, and it's exciting when shows start to do that in their second season, because so many shows only have one season in them, and the fact it's getting better bodes well. Plus I think they're playing around more with the mood, with the sets and stuff, I think they're building up their style and mythology more and more, so I really like that. I like that the show is slowly deepening its world.

That being said, I don't think SPN will ever be a show that inspires deep thought and discussions. It just does what it does really well. It's fun! I'm coming out as a fan, too!

But saying it's funnier than The Office, that's just crazy talk.

Exactly! I don't really need to have deep thought and discussion. Someone above described it perfectly: it's not great art, but it's great television.

Maybe The Office just warmed us up, but the first fifteen minutes of SPN made me laugh harder and more than The Office had. I couldn't breathe.

Yay. I have loved it from the first episode and I am glad it won you over. The bond between the brothers is the show's strength IMO and their loyalty to one another is the constant around which everything revolves. I loved last season, and admire that each show seems to bring things up a notch. Also, Jensen started on Days of Our Lives and I am absurdly happy when a soap star makes it outside of daytime. *Shout out to Emmy award winning David Tom as well.*
