Okay, you guys are amazing. I've raised over a thousand dollars already! I need to adjust my goal; I can totally raise way more than $1,800 in exchange for my burning calves. What do you think? $3,000? $4,000? It's doable! Also, if you happen to have donated $150 the day I posted about the contest, you are currently in the lead. Since Rob doesn't count. You guys are awesome. Thank you so much.

Before I get to VM, I have to say that this episode of Gilmore Girls was the best episode in a looooong time. It had the mix of hilarity and pathos that makes this show so great. It was just...really good.

Veronica Mars was also really good, surprisingly enough. The awful promo did not have me looking forward to the episode, but it was very good. I think it was by The Twins, too. Good job, Twins! (On further inspection, they got story credit, but the teleplay was by Jon Moskin and Jill Klembom. Good job, guys!)

People keep complaining about the show, but every time I actually watch a new episode, I'm so impressed with it and happy it exists. One thing I love so very much about it is that tertiary characters always come back. The writers create a richly populated world, and they then continually draw from their own internal continuity, which makes the series feel like a series and not a collection of episodes. I will not be surprised if we see Nadia again.

I like the way the Madison angst was handled, the way we got to see Veronica totally obsess about it like anyone would, with quick-cut images and the total self-awareness that Sane Veronica and Crazy Veronica are duking it out. I was surprised that Logan said he had lied because most everyone had seized on his bedroom admission as a double entendre, when, in fact, it was just what it seemed to be. I was also surprised that Veronica was angry at Madison for drugging her...by giving her a drink drugged by Dick? It's weird to call attention to that when the writers are obviously ignoring that black mark in Dick's record. But that's our Veronica. She holds a grudge, no matter how petty. You never know when this show will bring up old shit! Hell, I didn't even make the connection that the reason Veronica was reminded of Mac's birthday was because of the whole Madison/Mac thing. Also, way to forget Mac's birthday, dude.

The MOTW was pretty interesting, and...okay, see, this episode has Jill Klembom's hands all over it, because it's really hard to compartmentalize my review since they twist all the fucking plots together. I knew that Bonnie's dad would end up being a good, decent guy because this show loves to thwart stereotypes, and unlike some shows that shall remain nameless, it doesn't get its kicks out of offending the religious right. The investigation was just fun to watch, and I liked the nod to the fact that Veronica escapes her own problems by solving other people's.

Veronica's doorside monologue about needing to meet her brother who it turned out wasn't even her brother was hilarious. (Oh, on an unrelated note: hellooooooo, Kristen's back!) Loved the way she got Tim's password and loved that Tim had turned into S1 Veronica with the files on his computer. I knew that the guy in Mac's great scene at the Pi Sig party would be serving this function, so it was cool to finally see him offer up a Space Ghost clue to Veronica, who is hotter than Tim.

I never even thought about it, but I liked that Logan sleeping with Madison affected Dick as well. He has feelings! Perhaps a fraction of another dimension! What do you know.

Backup!! Long time no see. Is Mindy hitting on Keith? I don't trust her. Even though she's hot. I'm not entirely certain what the hell Steve Batando was doing back, but it led to a clue, so we're all good. There's egg on that Volvo! Wait, I'm so confused about which car was supposed to be there and which Nish said she egged and...er. But it was a clue! I know that much!

The second best line of the night went to Weevil: "If I need any literature compared, I'll know who to ask." And he demanded $500! Ha!

The Keith/Veronica scenes were much better than last week. Hell, even the one jokey joke scene wasn't too much, as A) it was only Keith and B) Veronica even made fun of it. It was nice to see them working together, and, of course, we got the line of the night, which made me sputter laughing. You've got to wonder how long they've been waiting to make that joke.

The ending was a bit weak. Phyllis seriously left that bookmark in a pregnancy book? Is she mental? And the "Veronica learns a lesson from the mystery she has solved" was a little too on-the-nose, although I did like the way they overlaid Capistrano's monologue over the car-crushing scene.

All in all, I liked it a lot better than last week's.

ellric, who had never seen an episode of the show before, said, "I could get into that." danea said they might have to work around their House conflict, but ellric replied that, er, there wasn't much of a conflict. Because he found VM way more interesting. And that is how I hooked two more people.

See? The show's still got it.

(I am just going to come stalk you on Tuesday nights, okay?)

I liked this episode a lot too, minus the Logan/Veronica stuff. It felt more like an old-school episode, what with the Keith and Veronica tag teaming, the kick ass breaking and entering sleuthing, the voice-over, the lesson-learned. Even Veronica's clothing (specifically the black/green ensemble) seemed to hearken back to Season 1.

I knew that the guy in Mac's great scene at the Pi Sig party would be serving this function, so it was cool to finally see him offer up a Space Ghost clue to Veronica, who is hotter than Tim.

I did not even recognize him!

I was also surprised that Veronica was angry at Madison for drugging her...by giving her a drink drugged by Dick?

Yes, exactly. It's so odd that she seems perfectly able to maintain a civil relationship with Dick while she's just barely able to tolerate Madison. I accept and am fine with the writer's intentional amnesia about Dick's role in Veronica's rape, but it was a weird choice for the writer's go choose Madison to break up L/V like they did, especially with the conscious effort to address on S1 and S2 storylines as little as possible. (In fact, I initially wondered why they didn't just have V tell Madison she was switched at birth with Mac, but then I realized that would *really* be confusing for newer viewers.)

The thing I really dislike is that it seems like the writers brought up the Mexico fire last week and destroyed all of that lovely continuity for nothing. (I was hoping that it would turn out Logan had lied for Mercer because he'd gotten pulled too far into the Hearst gambling ring or something.)

P.S. I enjoyed the subtle dig at S60 immensely. The latest episodes have been genuinely terrible.

Yeah, I don't know why they brought that up.

Aw, Dick. I'm glad they did this as well, since I've been pissed they have as of now (because like you said, you never know when something will actually come back on this damn show) abandoned the Cassidy stuff with him and thus he's just went back to being the guy that photographs his crotch. But baby steps, baby steps in unlocking the obviously existent, onion-style layers of Dick.

I knew that the guy in Mac's great scene at the Pi Sig party would be serving this function, so it was cool to finally see him offer up a Space Ghost clue to Veronica, who is hotter than Tim.

Dammit. I knew he looked familiar. Should have know it was *THAT* guy.

Mindy's sneaky, even if she is a babe. Heck, even more so because she is a babe. *noir score cues*

And he demanded $500! Ha!

If he doesn't get to seek vengeance on assy bikers or punch people this season, at least there is--and the little 'preppy' accent he did when saying Madison's plate name. Oh, Francis, I am so glad you exist. Ditto you Veronica Mars.

Yay converts! Nice going! ;]

I think there are...*counts on fingers*...five of us who feel this way. Go, us! I can't read most of the posts on my flist this day since I don't enjoy bile and vitriol. :/

Yes, I think Mindy is hitting on Keith, and Keith needs to stay away. Far away!

It just makes me sad that other people can't enjoy the show. They just seem to focus on the negative things so much.

Aww - I'm glad you liked it. And thanks for posting a different perspective because I respect your opinion. But . . . . I just didn't see what you saw.
And I've been high on the show, I really have. But it's good there are still viewers who are thrilled and happy when they see a show. And the Keith/Veronica scenes were good. I liked them and the televangelist - alot. But everything else didn't really work for me.

I agree with you. I might be the only one but I do!

Hell, I didn't even make the connection that the reason Veronica was reminded of Mac's birthday was because of the whole Madison/Mac thing.

I LOVE that Madison's birthday always comes up. Seriously, no one else's birthday has been celebrated on this show as much as Madison's. And I can actually see Veronica being the type who forgets her friend's birthdays.

I was also surprised that Veronica was angry at Madison for drugging her...by giving her a drink drugged by Dick?

See! I'm somewhat ok with Veronica thinking that way. I'm not ok with no one else calling her on it but I guess Logan didn't really care about defending Madison at that point by pointing out that it was his best friend who did the rufie-ing instead. Still, I was bugged that we get Veronica saying that and then acting all cool with Dick. I know that Dick's kind of been whitewashed but I think it's a stretch to expect the audience to overlook that kind of stuff when you put those two scenes together in one episode.

The writers create a richly populated world, and they then continually draw from their own internal continuity, which makes the series feel like a series and not a collection of episodes.

I agree. It's always been one of my favorite things about this show. Their continuity in other things isn't always so hot these days but the fact that they reuse the people in their world continues to amaze me. Especially now that Veronica's in college and it makes sense that it'd be people that have briefly met her who would come to her to solve things. (Also, can I say how much I love that Tim actually says good things about Veronica to Bonnie despite how he pretends to be so stand-offish around her in person?)

You've got to wonder how long they've been waiting to make that joke.

Forever? First Gil T Party and now Nancy Drew... they're on a role.

That Weevil moment did have me laughing, I have to say.

I'm not so frustrated by the episode, as I know many others are, but I do agree with most of what you said here.

Madison's birthday has been mentioned twice now? Yet we don't have a clear answer of when Logan's birthday is. Hmm...

I think Veronica's just been forced to come to terms with Dick, but not Madison. Also Madison was being malicious to her while Dick was being a creep to someone else. So, while I think it's dumb to blame Madison and not Dick, I understand why she would.

And women like to hate women -- don't you remember?

The ending was a bit weak. Phyllis seriously left that bookmark in a pregnancy book? Is she mental? And the "Veronica learns a lesson from the mystery she has solved" was a little too on-the-nose, although I did like the way they overlaid Capistrano's monologue over the car-crushing scene.

I admit to being confused with the ending myself. What? Wait, who -- what? What does that bookmark mean? It took me ten minutes of that to figure it out.

And yay! The Christians weren't locking-your-children-in-the-closet crazy. Score!

It's totally true that Veronica hates women. She HATED Lilly for being such a spiteful bitch, didn't she? And Veronica was so judgmental about Lilly's sleeping around!

And she obviously hates Mac, too. And Parker. And man, that Meg too. Veronica obviously *loathed* her. And her female teachers -- Veronica couldn't stand any of them! Veronica obviously has a problem with women and just can't get along with them.

*rolls eyes*

I feel the same way, I LOVE this show!

Anyway I agreed with your analysis completely, all the other reveiws I've read talked about how much they hated this episode and I was worried I was the only one who really enjoyed it- even if it did leave me feeling all sad and emo.

Yeah ... So I have a whole fanwank for this that may or may not make sense. Want to hear it? Well, here it is. Veronica blames Madison because Madison was horrible to her and continues to be horrible. Dick, as awful as he is, stopped being directly mean to Veronica. She doesn't like him, but she can get over the various things he did to her because he gave her a reason to. Basically she's capable of forgiveness to an extent when the people in question start being nicer (see Logan & salt lick).

Ok, that's my fanwank, but I'm still kind of bothered by the whitewashing of Dick's character, particularly in view of RT's interview. I don't think that writers get to decide that now that they like a character, they get to ignore anything terrible the character did in the past (and no I do not buy conspiracy theories involving Beaver and Sean).

Of course, I also sort of like Dick now, despite much resistance and my better judgment. I'm allowed to be hypocritical. I'm only a viewer.

People keep complaining about the show, but every time I actually watch a new episode, I'm so impressed with it and happy it exists.
You're not the only one. I don't know what people's deal is. The TWoP thread made more generalizations than I thought possible.

Ack. Well, I'm glad I didn't look, then. I thought I would be right on this week, since I wasn't as huge a fan of last week's, so it's not like I have blind love for everything! But this is Rob's least favorite of this arc, so.

I only have a couple things to say: Vey solidly written, very tightly acted episode! It was funny when dick was all like...'did you hook up with madison?'
logan: yeah...
dick: thats uncool
Yeah..and the way veronica was dressed for her trip to the church, and the free clinic..heh. 'Hester'. Way to go V,using the name of the gal in the 'Scarlet Letter'

I don't know..but if madison is so uberbad and all...why would she still go home every weekend and take her laundry? Maybe she has a bigger reason than her wanting her parents to do everything for her?

If you consider pride a feeling. It is, of course, but it's not one that makes Dick any more likable for me.

I liked the episode as a whole. CW still hasn't put it up for viewing so I haven't gotten to watch the bits I missed, which included Logan crying on the phone, so maybe I'm better off this way.

Congratulations on the fundraising success! I think I may have to drop my marathon plans. I'm nowhere near my goal, and even if I get the 10% by April 11, I'm not confident enough in my ability to raise $4400 to recommit, since if I can't raise the funds I'd be required to pay out of my own pocket, and, um, I can't afford to do that.

Yeah, I haven't watched VM yet but I made the mistake of going into the TWoP thread after I got home lastnight (because I have no will power!!) and it got me really depressed. But I know you're a reasonable person when it comes to this show, so I was SUPER relieved to read this:

People keep complaining about the show, but every time I actually watch a new episode, I'm so impressed with it and happy it exists.

I mean, I've had some problems with various things this season - like any picky TV viewer would - but they haven't overwhelmed my enjoyment of the show so far. So I'm glad to read you found this episode primarily enjoyable. Yay! I'll get to watch VM tonight once iTunes slaps it up.

I will admit I saw a stage production of "12 Angry Men" last night that was so good, I briefly became enraged at "One Angry Veronica" again, but I got over it pretty fast. Hee.
