08:12 am - I'd Listen to the Words He'd Say
A couple weeks ago, danea forwarded me this Tweet (that's what you call those things, right?) about someone looking for someone to write a review of Star Trek for a Science Channel blog. I linked her to some of my favorite LJ movie reviews, and she really liked them, but she had already found someone for Star Trek!

So I asked her if she needed anyone to review the new Terminator movie. And she did! ME!

Behold, my Terminator Salvation review on, like, an official blog-type thing!! It's a little more spoilery than I'd normally be in my uncut reviews here but not even as spoilery as some critics' reviews (cough, Ebert). It's safe to read unless you want to go in totally blind. The movie opens today! Go see it! I really liked it! Maybe my review will improve its dreadful Rotten Tomatoes rating (currently 35%).

Heather likes me and my reviews, so I hope to write some more for the site, which would be pretty cool. And I'm using my real name and not linking here so I can show it off without people tracking me down online. I need to establish an online presence that's not connected to my Polter-Cow persona.

(Also, she's sending me a free T-shirt. I LOVE FREE T-SHIRTS!)

(ETA: If you like the review, feel free to leave a comment and make me look popular!)

He spoiled a huge Cloverfield death IN THE FIRST PARAGRAPH. It boggled my mind.

I think it's the only way he can get his passive aggressive ya-yas out these days. It must really suck to be an out-spoken person that can't speak anymore.

When you linked to the review earlier, I figured I had just missed something (as I do, from time to time) and that you had been doing reviews there for a while- I didn't realize it was a new thing! So cool! And a t-shirt!

Okay, that was a pretty good review. And it's awesome that you're getting a chance to review in an official capacity. Let's face it, you love talking about stuff you've watched. It's the perfect job for you.

Oh, Blair Williams had a pretty big role in the prequel novel, From the Ashes. She seemed pretty cool. Kyle Reese and Star, too. I've been wondering if Star grows up to be the female soldier who was with Reese and got killed during his flashback in T1. Would be shame, tho, because that would mean she dies.

Show me a jet plane with a gun for a head, and then we’ll talk.
Dude, have you seen the A-10 Warthog? It's basically a plane with a gun for a body. It is a giant flying gun with wings.

Awesome review, and congrats on getting it published "on, like, an official blog-type thing!!" And yay free t-shirts!

Does this mean you got to see it early and sit in one of those rows that were reserved for press only?

No! I was a regular schmoe at the free screening this time. But maybe next time.

Neat! That was a fun review, you got your grammar geek on in the first paragraph, and then referenced it later on. Nice.

I'm sulking over the TSCC cancellation, so I'm not sure I want to go see the movie.

Woo and Hoo!! I'm not going to read it until I see the movie, but that's so cool. And the Wolverine movie had a dreadful RT rating but I thought it was totally fun.

Oh my gosh. Your review is wonderful! I was cracking up through the whole thing. Maybe he is robot Jesus? YES. :D

I think everyone's going to walk out with a little Worthington-crush. You know those critics did. It made them insecure.

That worked out so well. Now I can't stop thinking of him as robot Jesus.

I discovered them on Pandora! I only know that song and "Montana," but I really like them. Or her?

Oh, they're wonderful! I saw them open for... Blue Man Group? At the Warfield, I believe, several years ago now. I recall one adorable singer girl with short red hair, and then 2 or 3 other people. I bought the album in the lobby and have loved it ever since. The whole thing is generally the same quality as Soul Sloshing and Montana. If you ever get the chance to see them live, absolutely take it. Hmm, now I'm wanting to find more by them...

Hey Polter-Cow, It's Dren from TWOP.

Congrats on getting asked to do the review for the Science Channel blog! I saw the link on the TWOP TSCC forum and checked it out.

I wouldn't call it spoilerific at all. Marcus being a machine, the Harvester, the Moto-terminators and the Hydro-bots were all in the trailers.

You refer to T1 and T2 as "two great sci-fi action movies", but personally I've always thought of T1 as more of a sci-fi horror/thriller.

T3 was a disappointment, but some of the ideas from the movie such as Johns lieutenants being hunted by terminators, Skynet being a military program, and never truly being able to stop Judgment Day, only push it back are some decent concepts if only they could have been developed better.

And yes, unfortunately most people did ignore The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Which is too bad because I wanted to see where they would go with the idea that teenage John is Future!John.

This movie is mostly a sci-fi war movie, and really didn't feel like a Terminator movie at all, but oddly, that isn't really a bad thing. It works really well as a grim, dark, post-apocalyptic war movie.

Also I see the title of the blog is Nerdabout New York. Are you a New Yorker? I'm a Long Islander myself.

I'm not a New Yorker; I'm an Oaklander. But that's the magic of blogging!

Yeah, that was my reasoning.
